With valid driver's license (Category A B), he can ride motorcycle and drive motorcar proficiently with a range of driving experience.
He is highly motivated and experienced Social worker. Strong interest of making a meaningful contribution to the betterment of society and improving the lives of people. He intends achieving this through the media (Journalism) thereby using the media as a platform to influence governmental policy towards the less privileged and the vulnerable.
Evidence of this is a an article he titled NEED FOR SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKERS IN SIERRA LEONE. It was done with the sole purpose of Influencing governmental policy to include social work services in the school system of Sierra Leone.
Academic interest and achievement.
He currently holds a National Diploma (ND) in Social Work from the then Milton Margai College of Education and Technology (MMCET), now Milton Margai University of Education and Technology (MMUET). He has an invaluable knowledge Mass Communication and Journalism at the Africa Graduate University (AGU - SL).
While pursuing my career in the field of Journalism, he was at the same time volunteering at the Educational center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ECBVI) at Grafton, Freetown for a period of five-year (2012-2017).
In early 2017 (April), he picked up a volunteer programme with a non-governmental organization for a period of two years in Ghana and South Africa respectively.
Background Experience.
With his high motivation and knowledge of social work practice including group and community work, he has gotten himself a professional career with the Government of Sierra Leone at the Ministry of Youth Affairs. This happens after dedicating two years to a non-governmental religious organization, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be precise, in Ghana and South Africa respectively as earlier stated.
Due to his experience in field assignments for the past years, he has excellent field work skills, thorough knowledge and sensitivity to cultural diversity, knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications as well as training and facilitation of workshops. He also has a meaningful experience working with disadvantaged and less privileged people in and outside of Sierra Leone.
Why combined Social Work with Media?
His reason for choosing a career in the media is to utilize the underexplored relationship between social work and the media. It's not a secret that both fields focus on the stories of individuals and communities: while social workers help people to improve their situations and take hold of their lives, the media bring people’s stories to the public. By using media to shine a light on the important, unsung efforts of social workers, I have a long term goal of building awareness of how social workers change the lives they touch and broadens the impact of social work initiatives by reporting about them in a way that can engage and inspire a wide audience. Using the media to lobby the stakeholders and policy makers is also my sole priority.
Conclusion.
The most significant goal of social workers is exemplary public service through helping needy people address, manage and resolve various social problems. Social workers must always elevate public service above self-interest and personal gain. Social workers use their skills and knowledge to help their clients through serious social problems, such as drug dependency, child abuse, residential instability and criminal behaviors. Social workers often volunteer their professional skills through community organizations free of charge.
Against this backdrop, I want to capacitate myself in the best way possible to be able to do just that. To render an exemplary public service using the media as a long-term goal. The media can also be used to raise awareness about Social Work, thereby changing public perception towards the Social Work Field.
